This one has puzzled me for years: So much focus is placed on ensuring that bags, even small purses are stored under the seats during takeoff and landing. I was told by a flight attendant that this was to prevent objects flying around in the event of turbulence. Yet babies are commonly unsecured in the same circumstances. It was proven long ago that babies weren't protected by riding in their parents' laps when in a car, so why is a plane any different? Ignoring the obvious risk to the child, I'm not keen on having a 25 pound small human flying around like a missile!
